Thankfulness at the End of the Day

Sunset over the hills

The days are beginning to get longer here in the UK. We can be thankful at any time, but some wisdom writers and spiritual disciplines suggest taking time at the end of the day, as the sun is setting, to reflect on what has happened and what there is to be thankful for.

As dusk gathers and I watch birds swirling in the sky on their way homeward I am thankful for all that is good in my life. There is a poem by Longfellow "The Day is Done" and in it he reflects on the end of day and the beginning of night. Two short parts stand out and feed the poet in me -

"The day is done, and the darkness
Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
From an eagle in his flight.

Read from some humbler poet,
....Who, through long days of labor,
      And nights devoid of ease,
Still heard in his soul the music
      Of wonderful melodies"

I am thankful for those who keep hope alive and hear the music of wonderful melodies.

Today I am especially grateful for all those working on research into ME.  For those who raise funds and researchers working tirelessly to find out more about the causes, how to diagnose it and potential treatments.

There was news today of two pieces of research one in the US and one in Australia which give indications of immune activation and potential for a diagnostic test and future treatment.

Let’s Do it For ME has listed a summary of recent fundraising events.
